The South Dallas County Landfill has partnered with the MWA Regional Collection Center to provide for the collection and disposal of household chemicals.
Toxic, corrosive, reactive and flammable materials present common household disposal challenges. They can contaminate the air, soil, wastewater treatment systems and drinking water supplies if managed or disposed of improperly. These materials may also be a health risk to family members, especially children, if handled improperly.
The Regional Collection Center, in Bondurant accepts household hazardous materials from residents free of charge (up to 75 pounds). Minimal fees do apply for latex paint, electronics, tires, oil containers larger than five gallons and loads larger than 75 pounds.
Each April, the mobile collection unit "Cleanup Crew" comes to the Adel Kinnick-Feller Park for a couple of hours to make it convenient for residents of Adel and surrounding areas to bring their unwanted chemicals for proper disposal. WATCH THE ADEL CITY NEWSLETTER FOR THE EXACT DATE AND TIME. THE COLLECTION IS COORDINATED WITH THE CITY SPRING CLEANUP DAY.
With the assistance of the Adel Lions Club, who have volunteered to help with the event since its inception in 1998, over 1 ton of unwanted chemicals may be collected and transported to the Bondurant facility for proper disposal.
In addition to collecting household hazardous materials, the South Dallas County Landfill collects used motor oil and car batteries as a service to the community.
The mobile unit travels to various locations throughout the member area. For a complete schedule, please go to:
