Where is the landfill located?
The South Dallas County Landfill is located at 2000 Main Street, Adel, Iowa----follow Greene Street west from the stop light to 18th Street, turn north to Main Street (t-intersection), turn west 2 blocks, where you will see the sign at the entrance to the landfill. Turn north and proceed to the scalehouse. ___________________________________________________________________________
Who can use the landfill?
Waste generated within the City of Adel transported by citizens, businesses, contractors and contract haulers can use the landfill for disposal. Citizens and contractors hauling their own waste from outside the City of Adel may also use the landfill. However, commercial haulers (roll-off boxes) hauling waste for a fee must utilize the landfill within their own planning area. ___________________________________________________________________________
When is the landfill open?
Hours of operation:
7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 7:00 am to noon Saturday.
Holidays observed: New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day as well as the 2nd Saturday of August (Sweet Corn Days) ___________________________________________________________________________
What is the cost to bring items to the landfill?
The South Dallas County Landfill charges by weight.. Customers bringing loads to the landfill will be weighed before and after they deposit their waste to determine appropriate cost. IDNR fee will be added to the cost of all waste except recyclables.
Charges are $46 per ton plus IDNR fee* when applicable. The minimum charge is $12.00 plus the IDNR fee. The current IDNR fee is $3.65 per ton.
*The IDNR fee does not apply for some recyclables such as scrape metal and waste oil. There are additional charges for appliances, TV's, computer monitors and tires. Do I have to tarp my load?
YES!!!
At the South Dallas County Landfill, the term "SECURED" means loads must be secured in a manner that no debris in the load can be lost along your route to the landfill. (Driving slowly does not qualify as secured, nor does, "living within the town"). Whether you use a tarp, straps or some other method, you may not litter along the roadway or be a hazard for debris/items coming loose while in route.This is an Iowa Law!!
The landfill will charge an additional $10 fee for each unsecured load. The DOT, DNR and State Officials can also charge additional fines and fees. ____________________________________________________________________________
Where can I take my household hazardous materials/waste?
You may take your unwanted chemicals to the Regional Collection Center (RCC) that is located in Bondurant, Iowa at 1105 Prairie Drive. From I-80 East, take exit 142, the Bondurant, Altoona, Marshalltown (Highway 65) exit, go north a short distance to the Metro Waste Authority Regional Collection Center on the west side.
